bexar county esd 8 fire rescue

Proudly Serving Since 1949

While ESD 8 was formed in 2007, we've been serving the area as the Grey Forest Volunteer Fire Department long before becoming a professional entity.

The Service We Provide

Not just a fire department. We provide Advanced Life Support Care similar to an ambulance, provide Paramedic Mobile Integrated Health Services and routinely deploy with the state for wildfires.

Advanced Life Support (ALS)

While we are firefighters arriving in a fire truck, we are all EMT/AEMT or Paramedics as well. Our care and protocols are overseen by a Medical Director that demands a high level of care. We proudly provide excellent emergency medical care and partner with Allegiance Mobile Health to get you to the hospital.

Mobile Integrated Health Services

Having trouble with a chronic condition or getting the care you need? We'll happily send a Paramedic to you in order to assist. This service also provides the department with in-depth knowledge of the care you desire in the event of an emergency.

State Wildfire deployments

It's Texas and we're often in a drought which means the state burns and often overwhelms local resources. When the state calls for assistance through our partners at TIFMAS, we respond and have fought wildfires all over the state helping to save countless acres, homes and lives.

Allegiance Mobile Health

Our ambulance partner that is contracted to Bexar County. We have a unit housed at Station 182 for 10 hours a day with others prepositioned throughout the county to respond to all of your medical needs and get you to the hospital. Like us, they're ALS and always staffed with a Paramedic.

What is an ESD?

An ESD is an Emergency Services District, and it is a political subdivision of the State of Texas, similar to a School District, Library District or Hospital District.

Depending on the ESD’s creation documents, an ESD can provide fire protection, emergency medical services or both. A board of five commissioners governs ESDs and operates independently from the county government.

In most counties in Texas, the County Commissioners Court appoints the commissioners to two-year terms.
